Kids Tell All On The Pull Of Their Digital Gadgets

by Krysh Chainani

My mother always complains that we are on the iPad every free moment we get. My friends’ parents also seem to have this problem. Let me enlighten you as to why we enjoy being on the iPad, iPhone or any digital gadgets.

Digital Games

1. It’s Our World

When we are on the iPad, we go into a world that is much different from the world that we live in now. In the real world, kids are restricted by their parents. There are lots of rules that have to be followed. For example, I have friends who are not allowed to climb in the playground. When we break something in the real world, we get into trouble. When we break something in the digital world, we can always rebuild or reconstruct. Also, there is no one to scold us when we break something. And we feel free, because there is no one to tell us what to do. We can break anything. We can build anything.

2. We Learn On The iPad

We learn how to do things on the iPad. We don’t have to wait for someone to teach us. With the iPad we switch on the internet and learn how to construct and learn on our own. For example, my sister and I watched YouTube videos on how to do Rainbow Looms. YouTube videos are usually 5 to 10 minutes long. It is much faster than asking adults how to do things.

3. Watch Videos Anytime We Want

We (kids) like to watch TV. If it is not available on TV, we can go onto YouTube or Watch Disney Jr. App to watch our favourite movies or shows over and over again. Sometimes we watch video for entertainment like the ASDF movie – it is ridiculously funny!

Here’s another one that we enjoy VERY MUCH!!

I also use the iPad to watch videos that teach me how to combine two Hero Factory figurines to make one gigantic one.

4. We Organize Ourselves

My sister uses the iPad when she plays with her friends. She uses the ‘NOTES’ app to type clues when she and her friends play ‘Spy Games’. She also uses it for all her reminders /alarms to organise herself, rather than buying several alarm clocks and writing her schedule.

5. We Socialize With Our Friends

On the iPad you already know that we go into a different world but sometimes we get bored of playing alone, so we use multiplayer to be able to play with other people be it locally or internationally. This allows us to get to know other people as well as play our favourite games at the same time. Some of these games include ‘MINECRAFT’, ‘TERRARIA’, ‘GROWTOPIA’ and ‘WORLD OF TANKS’ ETC. In these games we build, mine, create, bond and invent together.

I hope this helps you understand why we like to use digital gadgets all the time. Now, if you will excuse us, we have a digital play date to get to.

Editor’s Note: This post is written by my 10-year-old son Krysh with contributions from his 8-year-old sister, Kyana. I offered some minor directions and editing on sentence structures. These are largely their own words and the opinions expressed are their own. Please leave constructive feedback or positive comments to encourage them to continue writing and expressing their view points. We appreciate your support.

Do you have a junior budding writer at home? Or someone struggling with writing assignments? Please email me at meiling@universalscribbles.com if:

  1. your kids are interested to contribute a post – we will be happy to publish it.
  2. you have a question about that you will like our kids to answer

I hope that seeing their printed work and receiving encouraging comments will encourage these young writers to write. At the same time, they will be providing us with invaluable insights into their world. Please support us by liking and/or sharing post to spread the news as much as possible! Many THANKS!

Hi Jerene, thanks so much for the encouragement! I will definitely show it to them. Let me know if Alexis wants to try her hand at writing something – maybe sharing her experiences in Dubai?
