With dengue fever cases reaching an all-time high of 90 cases in the East Coast neighbourhood (as of this publication date), I am worried as we stay in one of the dengue fever hotspots in Singapore!
As a parent, my first concern is for the health of my children, especially my youngest who is particularly sensitive to such bites. Whenever she is bitten by an insect or mosquito, her bite swells up over the next few days and she experience discomfort and sometimes even pain from the swelling.
I am also disturbed to find out that barely into the first month of the new year, the number of dengue cases had hit a record high of 267! The last highest number reported was two years ago with 263 dengue cases!
To make matters worse, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has detected a new strain DEN-1 serotype in a few of the cases, which the local community has little or no resistance against.
Full-day Full Body Protection
Because my daughter is susceptible to these tiny flying pests, I keep and carry an assortment of mosquito/insect repellents at home and in my purse respectively. However, these repellents last for only a short period, and I have to be vigilant about reapplication. I also do not like the smell of DEET when I spray it onto my daughter and I worry about the chemical effect from putting too much repellent on her skin.
Recently, a fellow mother introduced me to this NEW insect repellent on the market – Patchstyx Insect Repellent.
It is 100% natural and DEET free! It has mild smell, is waterproof and safe for children over 12 months of age. Best of all, it offers full-body protection for up to 36 hours per patch! And the application is easy – just stick on a patch to any part of your body* (preferably a meatier part like the thigh or arm).
PatchStyx Insect Repellent is a product from the United States of America (USA) and is approved by the NEA. The natural ingredient used in PatchStyx Insect Repellent is Vitamin B1 (Thiamine).
How does PatchStyx Insect Repellent work with Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)?
Our skin pores and breath naturally give off Carbon Dioxide (CO2) throughout the day. Mosquitoes follow the scent of CO2 to locate their meal targets. Vitamin B1 covers the CO2 scent on our skin pores, thus preventing us from being meal targets to these insects/mosquitoes. Thus, by having Vitamin B1 as its active ingredient, the PatchStyx prevents insects like mosquitoes & midges from biting our skin.
Is it safe to use the Patchstyx Insect Repellent every day?
YES. Vitamin B1 is a water soluble vitamin and will be excreted through your pores and urine. There are no known toxicity levels for vitamin B1 at this time. For more information on Vitamin B1, please refer to www.healthy.net or www.organicfoodee.com.
Can I take off the patchstyx and apply later?
No. The patch needs to remain on once it is applied. It is designed for single use only.
