Science Bob is the reason we are at the Singapore Science Festival 2015! He explains science and its theories in such an interesting manner that even I, who glazed over whenever someone explains anything scientific to me was mesmerized. Below Science Bob shares about Pluto…
The kids were first introduced to Science Bob on the hit American kid series, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn where Science Bob makes regular appearances. Science Bob is an elementary science teacher whose experiments and science shows are so AMAZING that he has appeared on popular talk-shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live. Check out this video of Science Bob on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
It had not occurred to me that this was THE Science Bob, so I was not prepared to blog about the activities at the Science Festival. Imagine my dismay when my phone’s battery went flat during the most critical moments of the show!!?! (I am so sorry I have no photos or videos to share with you!)
Science Bob’s X-periment! LIVE!
Science Bob’s X-periment! LIVE! was a 30-minute show. And Science Bob did not disappoint. He wowed his audience (including the adults) with his spectacular experiments — Liquid Nitrogen Cloud, tickled their fancy with his Film Canisters Launch with Alka-Seltzer tablets and amazed us with the Air Vortex Cannon!
I am mostly NOT interested in Science, but I wanted to sit in Science Bob’s science class! How I wish Science is taught this way in local schools to our kids! What a fun and interesting way for them to learn about the workings of science!! We need more Science Bob teachers in Singapore!
What an incredible TREAT to see Science Bob in person!
If you will like to see what the Film Canisters Launch is about, click on the video below. There are many more of his experiments on Science Bob’s website!
Changemakers of Science — Singapore Science Festival 2015
Science Bob may be the main attraction for us to head to The Singapore Science Festival, but there are many other reasons to do so too. The kids got to play and have fun at the many hands-on experiments managed by some of Singapore’s most outstanding research and tertiary institutions. And they get to meet the young Science Buskers who are competing for the public vote in their science projects!
This is literally a young scientists playground for kids to explore and learn, be exposed to scientific apparatus and generate interest in the world of science.
Above the kids were playing with an old favorite Magnets that you learn in Primary 3 & 4 Science; and below, they got to look through laboratory microscopes to see moving objects in the slides.
Over at other booths, my kids got to play with germs and extract DNA…
And we even collected some science fiction books written by the secondary and pre-university students. Best of all, they are FREE and we can collect as many as we like! My son, the budding scientist picked up a few copies.
If you want some great DIY ideas for your child’s science birthday party check out this post.
Also, check out the Science@50 events which celebrate Singapore’s achievement and potential in science and technology during our nation’s 50th Golden Jubilee. Science50 is held at One North, Biopolis & Fusionopolis on 4 September, 3 – 9pm.
What can you look forward to?
- Exhibitions by the A*STAR research institutes
- Speakers from Procter and Gamble (P&G) and LucasFilm and
- Exciting lab tours for a behind-the-scenes look at what our scientists do.
