Dads, Have A Date With Your Daughter!

Social research shows that all future romantic relationships in a girl’s life are influenced by the way she interacts with her dad. If he thinks she is beautiful and valuable, she will likely see herself that way too.

If you have a daughter who is 10 years old and above, I highly recommend Date with Dad, an annual event hosted by Focus on the Family, a charity dedicated to helping families thrive by providing affordable and quality family life education through effective resources like talks, workshops, personal counselling and much more! Date with Dad is a meaningful event held for father-daughter pairs who will learn more about each other through specially crafted activities to facilitate meaningful engagement through games, performances, father-daughter activities and heartfelt conversations. But more than that, its a way for the fathers to affirm their daughters as precious and treasured beings and send her the message to seek somebody special in life who will treat her right. I especially like the idea of having fathers present their daughters with a “Worth the Wait” ring, to emphasize her worth and value and his pledge as a father to set the standard to be a model for her future romantic relationships. Adrian Choo, who had a date with his daughter at the this event last year, shares:

“Date with Dad opened my eyes and thoughts. I finally understood what ‘spending quality time’ was all about. I felt the presence of genuineness; looking into her eyes; getting really interested when she answered the pack of question cards; when I did the nail polish for her; when I guided her on how to knot the tie on my neck. Suddenly I understood what the gap is. Not only was I edified about the gap, I was given an opportunity to close it.”

Check out what the daughters have to say after attending this event:

” I love spending time with my dad. I bet that when I’m away at college, these are the things that I’m going to remember. So many years from now, I’m going to miss and remember this, and I’m going to be really glad I took this day to spend with my father. “ – Nadya, aged 14, has attended DwD together with her father, Ramesh, a total of three times. ” I enjoyed the conversation time the most. It was very memorable, even though we (already) spend a lot of time together as a family. The conversation starters really helped us; we knew what to ask each other, and it also helped us to get to know each other better. We kept the conversation starters straight away to use the next time we go out! “ – Jacinth, aged 15, and her father Vincent attended DwD for the first time in 2013.

Watch this video clip to see what goes on at the event. I am so inspired after watching this clip, I can’t wait for my little girl to attend this event with her dad. But I think she still has a couple of years before she understands the significance of this event and I want her to enjoy the full benefits Date with Dad has to offer.
