Yesterday, we headed out to meet Gandalf the Grey and visited The Hobbit Hole. We even got to have a taste of what it was like being hobbits.
We did not have to go far as Changi Airport, together with Tourism New Zealand have brought a slice of Middle-earth to Singapore. This Naturally New Zealand exhibition is located at Changi Airport Terminal 3, level 2 (public area past check in counter 11).
The kids were immediately drawn to the Hobbiton. This is the second authentic Hobbit Hole built outside of Matamata, New Zealand, where the original Hobbit Hole was built for the movie The Hobbit Trilogies in December 2014.
Hobbiton and The Middle-earth
I must say the Hobbiton provided us with a beautiful photographic backdrop. I will let the photos share their stories.
We tended to the gardens and reaped the fresh fruits – strawberries and tomatoes (the fruits are real, and we were only pretending of course).
Look! Here’s our fresh harvest of pumpkins and carrots!
We even went into the Hobbit Hole and don on vests to get a feel of what it was like to be Hobbits. Except for their exceptionally large feet, I think these two human kids can pass off as hobbits, don’t you think?
Once inside, learn about the various scenic terrains that make up The Shire, Erebor and Hobbiton Woods. You can even get a glimpse of The Shire peeking into this tree.
And of course you cannot visit The Middle-earth without seeing Gandalf The Grey and the most important RING!
The Naturally New Zealand Exhibition
The beautiful landscape of New Zealand, made famous in the The Lord of the Rings movies and The Hobbit Trilogies, need no introduction or selling.
“What a beautiful view of New Zealand!!” exclaims my daughter from the (simulated) tallest building in New Zealand, the Sky Tower Auckland (1076 feet high). Adrenaline seekers can do the sky Walk which takes them around the outer perimeter of the tower harnessed to a cable or opt for the SkyJump, a controlled free-fall to the ground level.
Visitors to the exhibition will enjoy a snippet of modern New Zealand, where popular sports such as rugby, golf and cycling are featured. Visitors to the exhibition can also enjoy samples of New Zealand’s local produce at the event site.
New Zealand food and beverage will be served on 14 to 22, 28, 29 March and 3 to 5 April 2015 at 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.

Bring home this All Blacks autographed rugby ball — all you have to do is take a picture with the autographed ball and show what a big All Blacks fan you are and upload the picture onto your Twitter or Instagram account with the hashtag ‘#ChangiNZ’. Contest ends 5 April 2015

5D Simulator Ride
Adrenalines junkies will want to test out the thrilling 5D Simulator Ride at the Waitomo Cave. Children younger than 7 years old must be accompanied by their parents. My kids LOVE it.
How to get on the ride? Simply spend a minimum of S$40 at Changi Airport’s retail or dining outlets (S$80 for supermarkets) to redeem one activity pass. The 5D simulator ride is operational from 14 to 22, 28, 29 March and 3 to 5 April 2015. Please check the following schedule for your reference.
The Naturally New Zealand event is open from 12 noon to 10pm daily from 14 March to 5 April. There are also travel partners on hand to share exclusive travel deals to New Zealand. Shoppers and diners can also participate in a lucky draw to win an ALL-EXPENSES PAID trip for FOUR to New Zealand.
